The Boston Red Sox completed an impressive World Series sweep of the Colorado Rockies. It wasn’t the greatest series (by far), but halting a team which was on a 21-out of-22 winning stretch was big. And today “BoSox” fans filled the streets with unrestrained spirit and fervor for their beloved time. Actually, the event was quite a bore for such an amazing feat. They just cheered, clapped, and did all that silly civilized crap. Where was all the fun? In Latin America, if Boca Juniors or Chivas de Guadalajara win their respective leagues, there is a party and/or riot for days. What did Boston do?
…Today was about the Red Sox leading the nation in awkward looking celebratory dances. The first came today at the Copley Square T stop, with the Dropkick Murphys playing “Shipping up to Boston,” which has become an anthem of this team. Mr. Papelbon danced the clumsy jig that has become a rallying point of this Red Sox run.
Sounds randy. But what do you associate with a championship bash? Floats? Molotov cocktails? Samba dancers in thongs wearing your team’s colors? We want to know.

I remember living in Madrid when Real Madrid won the Champions League in 2002. Zidane with the memorable goal. It was fucking chaos that night. I lost my sunglasses, my shirt, and I think I threw socks in a fire pit. The police? Standing by, cheering, celebrating, and just making sure people weren’t being out of hand. I guess climbing historic fountain statues and draping them with team colors isn’t out of line because I witnessed around 500 people over the course of 3 hours climb on the same statue.
