Thousands of Brits ignored heavy rain yesterday in order to witness the first regular season NFL match in England between the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins. Wait one damn minute. What the hell do people in England call American football? Well it turns out that’s exactly what they call it: “American football.” Unlike us, they don’t mind sharing the logical description of their game with the illogical description of ours.

Let’s make this shyte clear. Machochip wouldn’t dare call English football “soccer” because we employ the hip use of fútbol. With that resolved, it turns out people in England actually fancy the American steelo of football. (Though, they still make fun of soccer.) So much so that people are actually wondering if the pigskin sport can make it over there. How can you gauge it? The fans hold the key.

Fan excitement was not in doubt. Most stayed for the duration of a game that looked dead before a late Dolphins drive, shouting and cheering in the right places.

Good thing they weren’t cheering the penalites and booing the touchdowns. Though it would have been great to hear how many times they used “wanker” against the referees.
