You ever wonder what kind of grit it takes for an athlete to walk away from the opportunity to roll deep with one of the greatest players in your generation? Right now, we’re asking ourselves how Anderson Varejao can consider leaving a team led by a young, Lebron James. The Cleveland Cavalier forward is currently fuming that he doesn’t make enough money. After his vibrant play in last year’s NBA Finals, Varejao thought he’d be up for a nice, hefty raise. He wants more money from the Cavs because he feels deadbeats on the team make more than him—and he’s not flying with it. Since the Cavs have milked a majority of their payroll on “The King”, Varejao is guaranteed to be swimming in the shallow end of the expense pool for the next few years. That’s if he wants to say.
“I just want to be treated fairly and I don’t think Danny [Ferry]’s done that.” “I wanted to come back,” he said. “I love the fans and I really love my teammates. But there are others there that have made it very difficult. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t want to play there anymore. I’m just hoping for a sign-and-trade at this point.”
We’re not out to snub his bravado, because the guy is obviously loony. And it’s not kosher to be bashing on the mentally instable. But, he’s hardly “marquee”, so he can kiss those possible championships goodbye…unless some team like the Spurs pick em’ up. But with their front line, it’s not likely. Don’t forget to send us some postcards from Europe, brah!
