So what in the world does Liverpool have to do to stay alive tonight? It seems like we go through this each and every year with this squad. They are one Champions’ League loss away from humiliation. They’ve been sandblasted as a flop by English media because off-season acquisition (Fernando Torres) is a gimp. Their manager, Rafa Benitez, is a disgruntled wee-man who epitomizes “all bark, with no bite” tactics and is preoccupied with verbal jousts with other coaches than producing wins. English Premiership club Liverpool are a stones throw away from elimination at this year’s Champions’ League and their captain Steven Gerrard isn’t playing nice anymore.
“We want to go for the jugular from the first whistle. Tonight is hugely important and we have to make a fast start to rock Besiktas early. I said two weeks ago we face three cup finals and I haven’t changed my position.”
Is that like a kung-fu kick to the balls? Considering it’s Turkish side Besiktas, what Gerrard should state is that they’ll quit for the rest of the season if they lose tonight. Let’s not mince words here. If Liverpool goes down, the season is shot, finished, kaput, done. They’ll definitely be “walking alone” in England if they can’t escape the group stages.
