NHL Player Tuomo Ruutu Shows That Finnish People Are Real Nice

Tuomo Ruutu of the Chicago Blackhawks was arrested yesterday outside of the city while he was out on a run. Unlike other athletes, though, he was quickly released. Police gave him the whole “fit the description” business that, for once, we believe.

Bensenville police arrested the 24-year-old Ruutu on Wednesday because he matched the description of a robbery suspect, said Bensenville Village Manager James Johnson.
“He met the initial description,” Johnson said. “This was just an unfortunate coincidence.”

Uh-huh. We’ve heard that one before, but never so nicely worded. But Ruutu, who must get his aggression out on the ice, didn’t even blink. He acted as if the whole thing was a game.

Ruutu, a native of Finland drafted by Chicago in 2001, described the whole event — including the ride in the police car — as “a fun incident.”
“I was just in the wrong spot at the wrong time,” Ruutu said. “It happens to me all the time.”

Yeah, we’ve got a cousin who that happens to all the time, but he obviously isn’t as happy-or as free-as Mr. Ruutu is right now.
