Jozy Altidore Speaks The Truth About His Dreams

altidore.151.jpg

We’re now going to admit a fascination with Jozy Altidore’s blog on the New York Times. It’s so rare to read an up-and-coming player be so transparent about his desire to get the hell out of where he is—in this case, the MLS. Sure, you might consider it naiveté, but not us. If Real Madrid even looked our way, we’d be brushing up on our th’s when we weren’t practicing. An excerpt from his latest missive:

Since the end of the M.L.S. season with the Red Bulls, I’ve been to South Africa, and now California and then China. It’s really just part of the job. When you look at the guys playing in Europe, they have the same schedule, if not worse, what with Champions League and other tournaments.

Jesus, it’s like comparing your girlfriend to a hotter girl who’s flirted with you—to her face.

If you dream about going there to play you better get used to it now. That’s O.K. with me. I’m just dealing with it. I want to play as much as I can and I just can’t say no to my country.

Pfft. You do know that the Euro is double the dollar, right? Hurry and get out while you can!
