In another screwed up page in the Sean Taylor murder saga, it turns out a 17-year-old kid shot the former Redskin last week in his home outside Miami. Eric Rivera Jr., and his accomplices—Venjah K. Hunte, 20, Jason Scott Mitchell, 19, and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18—all appeared in court Tuesday, indicted on the charges of burglary and murder. There’s a fifth, unidentified suspect that hasn’t been arrested yet, and is assumed cooperating with the Miami-Dade Police.

Hunte, Mitchell and Wardlow were wearing suicide safety smocks during the arraignment because they’re on a police-mandated death watch. Something tells us that once they get ID’d in prison, they’re going to need more than safety smocks to save them. The University of Miami Hurricanes are bigger than The Dolphins down there, and the story of how former U of M star Taylor died will infuriate more than one inmate.

Police said Taylor and his girlfriend, Jackie Garcia, were awakened by noise coming from the living room early November 26. Taylor got up and locked the bedroom door, but the door was kicked in and two shots were fired, police said. One struck Taylor in the leg.

And that was the bullet that killed him. As sad as it is that four kids killed Taylor, hopefully it’ll quit the clamor from the sports talking heads that Taylor’s murder had somehow been brought on by the victim. His past shouldn’t come into play when the killers just learned how to wipe themselves.
