T.O. is trying to smooth things over with teammate Tony Romo after comments he made that girlfriend Jessica Simpson screwed things up for the Cowboys last weekend. Bummer. Where’s vintage T.O? The one who’d spew tangents out like a Brooklyn fire-hydrant during a heatwave. Now he’s apologizing? It’s troubling.

“I guess she was kind of upset about it,” Owens said. “(I) just told him I would do whatever I can to rectify the situation. That’s about it.”

Owens said the call “wasn’t necessarily an apology.”

“I was just kind of explaining to him what kind of happened during the course of the (interview) session,” Owens said. “I kind of told him what was said, and he kind of expressed what Jessica had told him. I was like, ’Look, dude, it wasn’t meant like that. Everybody was having fun, and I was saying what I had to say. There it is, it’s a big story.”’

If your season was in the crapper, then it wouldn’t be an apology. Since you’re a contender, then it’s an apology. It was probably all a conspiracy for T.O. to get a little taste from Simpson anyway. It’s tempting Jessica. You know what they say about…wide receivers.
