Turkish Lawyer Wants Inter Milan To Forfit Fenerbahçe Win Because Of Big Ass Cross On Their Kit

oops_kit.jpg

When religion seeps into sports, it’s usually not a pretty thing (see: Ireland), and this is no different. Turkish lawyer Baris Kaska is petitioning UEFA to void Inter Milan’s Champions League win over Fenerbahce because Inter’s jerseys were offensive to his people. Man, we get nauseous every time we see the U of Oregon’s highlighter-yellow football jerseys, but you don’t see us suing-and we’re American!

The reason for the appeal is unusual: the celebratory shirt for Inter’s centenary worn by the team that night, and on several other occasions this season, offended many people in Turkey.
The shirt’s scheme saw a big red cross on a white background, a symbol of the city of Milan, and reminded many of an emblem of the order of the Templars, which is considered offensive in Islamic culture.

Honestly, we don’t understand why they have to go the lawsuit route. Why not just get Roberto Carlos to kill their asses with fireballs from his eyes?

I think all teams should be sponsored by Budweiser. It would solve so much.

I’m sorry, that’s a bad-ass kit. There should be no shame for rocking that.

It is this years 2nd jersey, and they have worn it whenever they have been playing away. It is like telling another organization not to wear certain colors because it offends me. What about other teams that wear muslim symbols, no on gets offended, because everyone else knows toleration. I GUESS NOT YOU TURKISH LAWYER

what teams wear Muslim symbols?

All national teams wear symbolic references to their country on their jerseys, be it the design of the jersey or the emblem. The Saudi National Team have symbolic ‘bent’ swords that killed Christians in the crusades, and so on. Alot of the Saudi domestic squads have the same swords and so on. My whole point is, the lawyer is on a slippery slope where anything nationalistic on team jerseys can be offensive to anyone. What about the Stars and Stripes, that can be offensive to anyone who has been to war with the US.

The absurdity of the lawyer’s complaint is evident to anyone who isn’t a moron. But Inter Milan were employing a symbol of their “city” not their nation. The stars and stripes is hardly analogous to this situation. And teams do wear “symbolic reference”, but not all maintain religious connotation. I’d think teams would be “offended” to play a team like the US if there was an M-16 brandished on their chest. But just the stars and stripes? Kind of far-fetched.

Anyone can take offensive to anything this day and age, since Inter Milan wore a cross that is part of the city’s history and can mean different things to all people. The situation did not cause a riot, or fans were killed, it is just some lawyer trying to make a name for himself.

You’re right. At least Fenerbahce’s fans maintained order and kept their machetes at home; unlike those crazy ass Roma fans. Those fuckers are nuts!

Well Roman fans are racist, with all the monkey dancing and throwin bananas at players….cant we all be like the Celtic fans, and slap a brazilian?

Uh oh. The “this site is so sad because they Argentines” guy is a Brazilian basher. hahaha. Here’s some beef. Now eat it!
