The LA Times has one of the first reviews of Tarnished Heisman, a tell-all that covers former USC running back Reggie Bush’s final year at the school. According to the tome, Bush and his family collect over $290,000, paid to them by a couple of convicted felons-cum-handlers and agents. If any chunk of the facts are true, then Bush could be made to give up his Heisman Trophy, which is currently sitting next to OJ’s at the school’s athletic center. Man, when you’re the bad one next to OJ, that’s some bad news.
The book’s case against Bush is built heavily on the testimony of one man, Lloyd Lake, who is at the center of the controversy. Lake, a convicted felon whose past in examined in the book, allegedly provided or arranged for hundreds of thousands of dollars in benefits for Bush and his family, much of which went directly to into the hands the USC football star.
And if that weren’t enough, he made them pimp out his car!
In February 2005, Bush asked for and was given $13,000 — by Lake — for the purchase of a car, a 1996 black Impala SS. The car was considered trendy in the neighborhood where Bush grew up … Bush wanted to upgrade the car and received another $4,000 from Lake to ‘pimp’ the car with a new stereo, tinted windows, and high-performance tires and rims.
Is it worth it to throw away your career over a ‘96 SS? A Range Rover we would consider, but an SS? Our moral thresholds do have class.
