When we heard David Beckham was opening up a branch of his soccer training facility in Sao Paulo, we couldn’t help but chuckle. It takes balls for an Englishman to go into Brazil and tell them how to run things, soccer-wise. And to make it worse, he’s calling it “David Beckham World of Sport,” which makes it sound like he’s turning into soccer’s Walt Disney. We can’t wait for Posh Spice to put on a Tinkerbell outfit. Hey, it might be a step up.
Beckham said the facility will incorporate a scholarship program for Brazilian children that will actively outreach to schools in the region, and that the training facilities will be able to accommodate visiting soccer teams and other sports such as American football.
“I am honored to be associated with this incredible project which will build world-class sporting facilities in Brazil, hopefully having a major impact at a local level and internationally,” Beckham said in a statement.
The latest David Beckham Academy - a soccer school for youths - will be among the highlights of the new development, which also will include two golf courses, academies for golf, polo and tennis, and the Rubens Barrichello Driving Experience comprised of a go-kart track and four-wheel driving facility created by the Brazilian Formula One driver.
Jesus, what is he building, a soccer facility or Brazil’s first Chuck E. Cheese? The only thing missing in that menagerie of buildings is the Calvin Brodus Memorial recording studio. Hey, if the kids are going to train to be professional athletes, they might as well start on their rhyming skills now before it gets worse.

This makes as much sense as Nike opening a sports park in Thailand

Do we really want to Anglicize the Brazilians? Hell. Fucking. No!

I so hope he also tries to give all his students frosted tip highlights, too.

Looks like coach just might get schooled by a bunch of barefoot ten year olds playing with wads of socks for soccer balls. These kids’ll bend ol’ Becks fo’ sho’…and then take the go-karts out for a spin on the golf courses for their victory parades.

Have any of you been to Brazil? Probably not.
Did you hear how the big cities are stricken by poverty and violence. What David Beckham is doing, by adding his name and endorsing the project, is to help the children of Brazil to stay out of the gangs and violence. One way to reach out to the children, “just say no” will not work there, is with sports, from boxing to martial arts and even soccer. These foundations will not be making money from these kids, they are not out there looking for the next Pele, but to give the poor children of Brazil a place of comfort and solace from the street violence that plagues the urban youth.
So quit being jackasses appluad some good in sports today. You can make fun of Becks all you want, hairstyle, wife, and his modeling phots, but for once he does something that can be universally agreed upon as “good.”
I hope you take this into consideration next time the editors of Machochip decide to post.

Hey, Anon, there are a lot of places that are poverty stricken that he could’ve gone to instead. This is nothing more than a ploy to gain a market share of whatever kids they find in the system and their future revenues. Altruism is dead for a man who markets everything about himself. This guy’s worse than Krusty the Clown. Why doesn’t he build in the English slums, or how about in South Central LA, where the kids might not be as bad off as the Brazilians, but it would make sense because he plays for the Galaxy. Leave Brazil for Kaka or Pele to build on with his Crestfield wax paper money.

It’s just like Coca-Cola in Saigon. Yippeee!

Maybe it is not a non for profit foundation, but there has not been a case where someone went to the David Beckham Academy, found and sold to the highest bidder. There are two academies in London and LA. So quit being babies about the story, and applaud a person who is spreading the beautiful game around the world. Kaka is giving a huge amounts of money to his church, and Pele is boning young girls, so WTF!
