We stumbled upon an article by Brian Glanville in World Soccer magazine criticizing Parma player, and staunch Communist, Cristiano Lucarelli about his fascination with revolutionary leader and original hipster Che Guevara. Turns out Glanville doesn’t think to highly of Che, nor Lucarelli’s infatuation.

“It’s sad to find Cristiano Lucarelli, the Italian international striker now at Shahktar Donetsk [Ed. Note: He’s now at Serie A club, Parma], still prey to the enduring myth of Che Guevara, as he told World Soccer last month.”

One: Glanville has established that Lucarelli’s opinions should be on par with an intellectual. Whether you dig Che or not, who the hell cares what Lucarelli, a proud commie and soccer player (!!!), thinks about political affairs? Is he that influential? Honestly, why do people still eat white bread? What?

Surely there has been much chapter and verse, enough irrevocable evidence, to show that this man was a ruthless killer—often with his own hands—and one who condemned countless political opponents to death.

Glanville, attempting to curb his obviously anti-communist readers, may want you to boycott Lucarelli for the rest of the year. That, or he’s got a really huge crush grudge against Benicio Del Toro. So , what do you think? Should athletes leave their political ideals on the sidelines?
