Screw the steroids! Miguel Tejada could see himself swinging at Dominican curveballs for the rest of his baseball career if the federal government of these United States de America have anything to say about the matter. Since Tejada is now in the federal government’s sights, (and since they really have nothing, absolutely nothing, better to do), he is prone to anything from a colonoscopy to a federally mandated prostate examine. Or worse! If Tejada is found guilty of lying his ass off to Congressional peeps, then his resident status in the USA could be revoked. This steroids debacle is getting out of hand, fellas. There’s implicating a man in a perjury case and then there’s fucking with a man’s green card.
“Obstruction of justice is considered under immigration law a crime involving moral turpitude,” said attorney Alexandre Afanassiev, who practices immigration litigation. “So the question then becomes, how long did he have his green card? Why? Because the law says that if you had your green card for less than five years and then committed a crime of moral turpitude, you can be subject to deportation. In other words, they can take your green card away because of that crime and (have you) sent home.”
This sounds more like “turditude” for Tejada. (Poopization of vocabulary is always funny…well, sometimes.) Ironically, Tejada has been residing in the Dominican Republic and playing winter ball, meaning he may not be granted entrance back into the country if he’s found guilty of anything before the players have to report to training. Though, there is a chance he could counter the maneuver:
“But he might want to look at becoming a citizen of the United States also before there is ever any conviction against him, because he can never be deported as a citizen. … Well, an investigation can be anything. … As long as no charges are being brought against you, I think you can still apply for citizenship.”
In the post 9/11 US, that means Tejada has a shot at voting for the presidential race in 2012. We’ll be seeing you on ESPN Deportes’, brah.
