- International Friendly: England are happy they didn’t blow it during Fabio Capello’s debut. Fabio Capello just stares into the Wembley sky. England 2, Switzerland 1. [The Sun]

Always entertaining, always good game to watch…great rivalary in the making.

the rivalary was cemented in 2002.

Awesome game last night. El Tri is showing promise, and the U.S. is becoming impressive to watch, too.
Have we already forgotten Argentina’s B-team drubbing Guatemala 5-0 in L.A. last night?

@chorcho
More like team of future….also with Riquelme and Messi in the lineup Argentina can never have a B-team, they can try, but the greatness of Riquelme will lift them from B status to H. Heavenly.
The Mexico US game was a poor showing from both teams. It was the same story, with the US countering when possible, with Mexico having the most ball possession. During the second half, US had the ball and could not do anything with it, they would just give the ball back to the Mexicans, who either took some random shot or gave it back to the Americans. If this continues, watch for the US and Mexico to lose many games this summer in the qualification games. Thats how bad it was. Also, the Americans could not keep to pace with the Carlos Velas, Dos Santos on the field, either having the MLS during the Summer is a reason, or the young Mexicans are that much better. I agree the rivalary is there, the intensity is there, but the level of football they showed in the past (Gold Cup for the US, Copa America for Mexico) was on vacation or taking a siesta or jet lagged, just not there.

Rivalary was really cemented in 98 when i believe (Correct me if im wrong) US beat mexico in world cup action…and towards the end their were some serious nasty tackles on behalf of mexico which I think has stuck with the US team ever since…just my opinion. I still think the rivalry is in the making bc soccer in the US is just started to come to life…..sloooowly but surreeely

@el pussy
2002 in the round of 16 was the game you are reffering to, which i had mention earlier. Marquez was given a red card for doing what he does best, enforcing tyranny on the field. Not as nasty as Materazzi but effective until he got carded. Landon Donavan also dance around him like a it was cinco de mayo with one hat on the floor….rivarly confirmed.
in 1998, the US was spanked hard and only scored once, agaisnt IRAN.
It really was 1990 where US soccer came onto world scene, which sparked interest in America. Before the 1970s, now defunct NASL, with the creation of AYSO, help soccer become what it is today. Blame it all on Kissenger, the jews love of their soccer but dont we all.
