It’s nice when a sports story comes out of Colombia that doesn’t involve riots, drugs or rioting over drugs. Golfer Camilo Villegas’ is one such tale, but wethinks that his New York Times profile got a little creepy as writer Larry Dorman began salivating over the new golfing phenom and sex symbol. Simply to look at him calls to mind the opening line, translated from the Irish, of Maurice O’Sullivan’s classic autobiographical work “Twenty Years a-Growing:” “There is no doubt but that youth is a fine thing.”

When he burst on the scene in 2006, flashing rippling biceps, attracting swarms of screaming female fans and reading putts from a one-handed pushup position that earned him the nickname Spiderman, he looked like a cocky college kid who could play, but was a little too flamboyant.

Villegas wears corporate logos on the front, right side and back. His shirt bears similar accouterments. And his clothing tends toward the tight side.

Hey, that’s okay Larry, we get an occasional man crush, too. Have you ever heard of one Mr. George Clooney? We dig. But at least you finished his profile showing his macho side, right?

During a photo shoot to accompany an article in GQ, Villegas was startled when a model walked on the set to pose for photos with him. A friend who was there said that Villegas politely told the magazine that he was not going to be photographed with the woman.
