Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is one conflicted boxer. If you watched the 24/7 documentary series HBO ran before his fight with Oscar De La Hoya, you know his relationship with his father is non-existent. Well, now another member of his family might be getting the boot because of a De La Hoya-related incident. Roger Mayweather, Floyd’s uncle, is training Steve Forbes, the boxer who’s fighting Oscar next. But Jr. sees a conflict of interest because if Forbes wins, it takes the luster out of the DLH/Jr. Sept. 20 rematch, which costs him money. So his resolution—tell his uncle to quit, or else he’ll bring in that other relative he can’t f’in stand!
“Lately, I’ve been upset with my uncle, Roger Mayweather,” he said. “My uncle Roger has been training Steve Forbes and if Steve Forbes beats Oscar, it’s taking money out of my pocket. [If he continues], I’ll have to move on and get another trainer.”
Mayweather Jr. went so far as to say that he might even try to lure his father back to his corner, although Mayweather Sr. — who also is estranged from his brother Roger — trains De La Hoya.
Say what you want about the youngest Mayweather, but it’s not like he and his story don’t belong in the WWE. We wouldn’t be shocked if all of this was a WrestleMania 24 storyline and The Big Show’s manager turns out to be… Oscar De La Hoya (dun dun duuuunnn!).
