OMG, everyone, David Beckham has the option to buy an MLS franchise when his contract with the Galaxy ends!!!! The story comes from a 60 Minutes segment the soccer star taped that will air Sunday and, well, really shouldn’t come to a surprise to anyone. It’s not like the piece of the franchise Kobe Brant supposedly got for staying with the Lakers. No, that actually is worth something. But can’t anyone, with a consortium, buy an MLS franchise if they have enough cash? Why would his bid be so special? We want answers!
“Our policy is we don’t comment on potential owners of Major League Soccer teams,” MLS spokesman Dan Courtemanche said. “Ultimately, if individuals or groups are interested in purchasing a Major League Soccer team, it’s their option whether or not they want to express it publicly. We’re a private company, and those matters remain private.”
Well, at least until Sunday night they are. I guess we’ll have to watch 60 Minutes to find out what the real deal is… but we’ll skip the last 10 minutes for fear of getting angry.
