There was an overwhelming sense of redemption from the Manchester United fans when Paul Scholes 18 yard volley hit the back of the net during the 14th minute of today’s Champions League semifinals game. Barcelona’s Deco tried feverishly to kick the ball out of Barcelona territory, but he managed to skid the ball into the midfield where a charging Scholes put a strike that would have made Roberto Carlos blush. Unfortunately, the goal meant that the Champions League final will be an all-English clash, which is like watching an all-New York World Series. It’s not fun. At all. But we’ll watch the final anyway because we love the game and the tournament. And if there’s anything to look forward to it’s Cristiano Ronaldo adding an extra game that may witness his 40th goal of the year. The feat might not be as sexy as Nereida Gallardo, but you’ll remember it if it happens. Paul Scholes brilliant goal after the jump.
