Let’s beat the shit out of the perennial steroid denial drum a bit more, shall we? Next in line for the drum circle: Sugar Shane Mosley. Sugar (can we call you Sugar?) is trying to discredit BALCO founder and convicted felon Victor Conte’s allegations that the sugemeister took steroids. The Los Angeles Times reports that Conte attests Mosley took steroids seven weeks prior to a 2003 Oscar De La Hoya clash. Conte states that Mosley was on liquid steroids—which are applied under the tongue and provide a minty freshness kids would love—and something called EPO (Eggs, Potassium and Ovaltine?) into his stomach. Ouch.

In Mosley’s case, Conte says he has access to the boxer’s doping calendars and lab results, which he said help support his claims.
“I told him it was an undetectable steroid that wouldn’t show up in a test,” Conte said.

We’re convinced Red Bull switched out ephedrine with this stuff. Conte goes on to describe Mosley’s arrival in Oakland, his limousine ride to BALCO and his blood tests that revealed Mosley’s enriched red blood cell count, which confirmed to all parties that Mosley was on something more than B-12.

Mosley has acknowledged injecting himself in the stomach area and paying for BALCO products — Conte said the bill was $1,650 with a $900 cash payment for EPO — but the boxer maintains he believed he was using legal vitamins. “You think vitamins cost $900 a month?” Conte asked.

Zing. But, they do at GNC. And have you seen how much Wellness pills cost? Those fuckers are like $30 at Whole Foods. Yet, it doesn’t matter. Mosley’s wife and manager’s rebuttal should set the record straight.

“Shane never had a doping calendar or never knowingly took steroids. He was not taking anything labeled ‘steroid.’ “

And we’re not drinking anything labeled “Scotch” right now either.
