The New York Yankees are hosting this year’s MLB All-Star Game and they don’t seem to mind that David Ortiz will be participating the game. They also don’t mind that people are tossing around comparisons between the Sultan of Swat and Big Papi. And why should they? Ortiz is as chubby as Babe Ruth, as powerful as Babe Ruth and as gregarious as Babe Ruth. But MLB officials are planning a “Call Your Shot” promotion in which David Ortiz will call a shot and take one swing towards glory, an act reminiscent of the Babe. Only problem the Yankees have is that Ortiz is not a Yankee…and this swing is to take place at Yankee Stadium! Sound the fucking alarms.

[T]he Yankees do not seem as if they want Ortiz to take that swing. The Yankees were upset about the plans involving Ortiz and said they were unaware of the promotion until a reporter contacted them Thursday night. The Yankees were discussing the matter internally and planning to contact Major League Baseball for an explanation.

Good luck curbing what 7/8 of the population doesn’t mind. Let’s just all sit back and indulge in David Ortiz’s approach to the festivities:

“Babe Ruth is part of baseball history,” Ortiz said in a telephone interview. “If somebody gets you involved with something like that, of course it’s cool. Who wouldn’t want to be compared with something that Babe Ruth hit?”

Sloppy seconds never sounded so appetizing.
