While most of us rue each email we get promising something to do with sexual drive, enhancement or opportunities, at least we don’t get Ozzie Guillen’s email. The White Sox manger has been getting racist letters from anonymous jerks who hide behind the electronic curtain. (Hey, at least when we call someone names—like “creepy”—they know who’s saying it). To his credit, Guillen is taking the high road and saying that the hate is more of a response to his attitude than his race. Uh, we’re gonna have to disagree with you there, buddy, considering these examples.
”Go back to your country and pick coffee beans.” ”… you dumb Mexican.” ”… you bastard Venezuelan.”
And those are just from his players!*
”I’m sure some people think, ‘There’s the crazy Latino again,”’ Guillen said. ”But I think it has to do with my age, not because I am Latino. Maybe others feel that, but I don’t. I don’t believe in that stuff. When we went to visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum [in Kansas City], that taught me a lot about what is going on — how bad it was with the minority people in this country. I couldn’t believe it. I want to believe things are better.
Hell yeah, Ozzie. Si se puede. Let’s forget John Edwards, and go for an Obama/Guillen ‘08 ticket. Who wouldn’t vote for that? Oh yeah. The racists.
*No, of course they’re not from his players.
