Lorena Ochoa is bidding to win her first US Open championship this weekend but she’s already pinned up against some stiff competition from a Colombian amateur named Maria Jose Uribe. Golf For Women’s editor believes she’s bascially getting spanked. Rarrr.

I just watched the 18-year-old make three birdies in a row. And they’re no accident. She’s consistently outdriving Lorena Ochoa, her playing partner, and, more importantly, is keeping it in the fairway.

So, his is this senorita Uribe?

• Born in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
• UCLA standout who was recruited in 2006 because she’s awe.some. [Ed note: Fellow alum, I salute you.]
• She’s very superstitious. Uribe states:

  I don’t play with a Titleist three ball at all. I play Titleist two when I play in the morning and Titleist four when I play in the afternoon. And if I play bad with a certain outfit I won’t wear it when I play again. I have to hit my last driver on the driving range bad. And I eat the same thing all the time — granola, yogurt and a banana.

  Word. We only write after we take a nice, long sniff of glue and down a 24oz. of the Bud-weiser.
• She loves sushi, Tiger rolls specifically, and she loves to dance.
• She is the only amateur who will play in four major pro tournaments this year, placing her in direct contention for the title of most bad ass Latina golfer.

Since she’s eight years younger than Lorena Ochoa, there’s a good chance a Phil Mickelson/Tiger Woods-esque feud could erupt from this. The networks are probably scheming for it as we speak.
