There’s a sport’s award show hittin’ the award’s scene this summer brought to you by Tecate and Univision. Tecate Premios Deportes is scheduled to air July 20th, with a taping on the 14th in Pasadena’s Civic Auditorium, and it’s likely Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz, Miguel Cotto and Lorena Ochoa may be in attendance. (If that’s the case then we may be there too.) Out of the hundreds of noteworthy athletes vying to win an award, one stood out more than others. Someone we had no idea was Latino. Whose going up against Pau Gasol and Manu Ginobli in the “Basketball Hispanic of the Year” category? Take a wild guess…did you guess? Come on, guey! Guess!
That’s Denver Nuggets’ DUI touting power forward Carmelo Anthony. He’s half Puerto Rican (his father was from the PR and died when he was two), which makes him a perfect candidate for the award. Who else is on the list. /Deep breath.

Surprisingly, Oscar De La Hoya isn’t up for anything. Not even some contrived “Most Influential In Their Sport” award. Which is ironic because that’s exactly what we’d put him up for, along with Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim owner Arte Moreno and maybe, let’s say, Jaime Jarrin? Stop drinking those free Tecates and give some props where props are due! /Pours beer down throat, tosses can and storms off.

commo well i was here at this award night and i did’t see all of these people posted on this list. i was the one of the ones that were standing on the stairs on the dance floor. but the show was really good besides all that.
