The WNBA is enduring its most infamous week after the Los Angeles Sparks and Detroit Shock stunned the world with their brawl. Seriously, that was a great fight. And we want more. Because brawls usually define passion (unless you’re Ron Artest. Then brawls define insanity.) and raise ratings. Anyway, now the WNBA hits the headlines with a story about Nancy Lieberman. She’s an ESPN basketball analyst and former coach of the Detroit Shock. She’s 50 years old and is getting ready to suit up for a seven day contract that she just signed with her former team, making her the oldest player to ever suit up for the league.

“At last year’s WNBA All-Star Game, our coaching staff watched Nancy run through the skills test. She was very impressive,” said team coach and GM Bill Laimbeer. “We talked after that if the opportunity ever arose to sign her to a seven-day contract we might give her a call. There is no question she is in great shape. I approached her two weeks ago, but the timing was not right.” “Can she still compete at this level? I don’t know,” Laimbeer said. “But I’m going to throw her in the fire.”

Which means the Detroit Shock are totally looking to get into another brawl in the next seven days. Hey, wouldn’t you want an experienced 50-something on your bench when the punches start flying?
