America, we understand this is a bad time in our country. We’re at war, the middle class is quickly diminishing and Boston teams are winning all the championships. But that is not an excuse for what happened in Oregon yesterday. A man died after two big rigs crashed into each other, one of which was carrying a load of Nikes—that people started stealing straight from the truck. These people make those who wait overnight for a pair of limited edition Jordans look sane. Well, somewhat sane.

Troopers responding to a collision of two tractor-trailer rigs that killed one person and injured two others encountered a disheartening obstacle: Several people attempted to steal some of the load of Nike athletic shoes being carried by one of the trucks.

“It interferes with the attention that they have to direct toward people who may have been injured” and the effort to figure out what happened, [Lt. Gregg] Hastings said Thursday. “That was an unfortunate development that really disheartened the officers and the other emergency responders on the scene.”

In addition, Hastings said, taking the shoes was illegal.

Beat and arrest those idiots, Lt. Hastings, but do it by the book, not from the heart. Once you give in to your feelings, that asshole jacking a pair of SB Dunks over the dead guy’s body becomes a person, and none of us want that to happen.
