Blue-green algae has overrun sailing lanes in Qingdao, China where the sailing competitions are supposed to be held during the Olympics. This is what people are doing to help in the fight against algae pollution. The photographer better win a freakin’ Pulitzer for this image because it rocks. Look at how the algae is transforming this man into a green beast. Do you see how calm the man is? It’s almost as though he wanted to jump into the Qingdao and help eradicate the waters of a pollutant that’s going to destroy an Olympic event a 1000 people are going to care about worldwide.
Also, the contrast between the greenish-yellow algae (where’s the blue hue?) and the guy’s sun-denied legs is fantastic. And, he’s already growing a tentacle on the right. This is amazing stuff. Another great photo after the jump.
The algae is kind if you just sit still.
C’mon in everybody, the water’s fine [Chris Blattman]
