Nationalism, Thrown Urine And Racist Taunts? Welcome To Panama V. El Salvador, World Cup-Qualifer Style

Panama is kinda pissed at El Salvador right now, and it ain’t because they’re not returning their calls. When the Panamanian soccer team got walloped by the Salvadorians in a World Cup qualifier last month, things got a little testy when not only the fans, but the host team itself, got ballsy with the opponent. In a letter to FIFA, the Panamanian soccer federation got their aggression out, saying “the players were the target of racism and bags of urine.” Well, that’s kind of redundant—we’ve found people who hurl either racist taunts or bags of piss are usually one in the same. But unfortunately, the indignities didn’t stop there. No, it’s got all WWE up in the pitch.

In a letter to world soccer’s governing body, the Panamanian federation also said their goalkeeper was struck by a bottle and that El Salvador’s captain threw a Panamanian emblem to the ground after the pre-match formalities.

Well, that wasn’t very Captainly of him.

“From the start to the finish of the game, our players were constantly insulted by the public who, in addition to the racist insults, threw bottles, bags of water and bags of urine, amid the indifference of the police, who should have given protection…”

Yeah, but you know, there were Ziplocs of piss being thrown. The bottles can be broken by the shields, and the bags of water are no problem, but the flying colostomy bags… the contents can end up anywhere. They don’t get paid enough for that.
