Britain’s second-youngest Olympic contender doesn’t have too much to learn about talking smack. After a dismal showing during the penultimate round in the men’s synchronized 10 m dive, Daly told his teammate Blake Aldridge, a guy 11 years his senior, to get the hell off of the phone during competitions.

Aldridge, 25, said: ‘I was trying to calm Tom down and he had a pop at me on the last dive. It was when we were sitting down. I saw my mum in the audience and I asked her to give me a call and Tom said to me - “Why are you on the phone? We’re in a competition - we’ve got another dive to do.’

‘And that is just Tom being over-nervous. Tom should not be worried about what I was doing. But today he was worried about everyone and everything. That, to me, is the sole reason why he didn’t perform today.’

Smell that? It’s the scent new tide of diver storming into Britain and the foul stench is Aldridge’s career in full decomposition. No really. We can actually smell his career rotting.
