The Olympic hosts are going to be pleased to hear their national anthem reverberating throughout the National Indoor Stadium tonight after China defeated the US in the Women’s gymnastics competition by a mere 2.375 points. The US was looking good after the uneven bars until Alicia Sacramone suffered a costly mistake on the balance beam, losing her footing from the initial jump and falling off before her routine even got started. Too add more insult to her humiliation, Alicia Sacramone proceeded to fall during her floor exercise, all but distancing her team’s chances of claiming the gold medal. Just how did people respond to the mistakes? From the NY Times live blog:
Oh No! Sacramone just fell on floor. I saw it her face before she started. I feel she was still distracted by her mistake on beam. I have never seen her miss this skill. She missed her second pass, a double Arabian. She just sat it down and then she stepped out of bounds at the end of the routine. I am shocked and it you can tell, that she is too. Her score of 14.125 will be impossible for Nastia and Shawn to get back.
Good thing we don’t hold grudges against cuties. Even though she cost us a win against a bunch of commies. What? Fine. It’s displaced anger. We shall indulge in some flicks of Alicia to help us get over it, k?
Ok, we’re not as bitter as were twenty minutes ago. Now, where is that women’s beach volleyball schedule?
