Guanabee points us to a Brazilian publishing scandal by way of “actress” Carol Castro who has posed in Brazilian Playboy’s 33rd anniversary issue topless while holding a crucifix. (Which means, as Guanabee points out, that Jesus is topless, too.) Now a court has ordered Playboy to halt any further distribution of the issue all because the Catholic Church is offended:
Castro, who considers herself a Catholic, defends the photograph saying she meant no harm to anyone. The shoot is meant as a tribute to the novel Dona Flor e Seus Dois Maridos (Doña Flor and Her Two Husbands) by Jorge Amado which is about a Brazilian woman who cheats on her second husband by sleeping with the ghost of her deceased first husband. Which is somehow supposed to be less offensive to priests.
A sample of what’s got their collars to holla after the jump.
We may never understand the Brazilians, but we think a few hours staring at some more evidence might help.
