Whas Happened In Sports Last Night

  • Olympic Basketball: What do you get when China’s most famous basketball player and every well-known NBA athlete competes against his team? Chaos. Pure, adrenaline filled chaos resonated throughout Wukesong Arena as 18,000 fans packed the arena and cheered for some historic basketball. Hell, it made us get up hella early just to watch it, and we haven’t done anything like that since the Summer of 2006. The US came out on top with Lebron James leading the charge by scoring 18 points. USA 101, China 70. [Bloomberg]
  • Community Shield: The EPL kind of, sort of got under way with Manchester United and Portsmouth United competing for, well, nothing that really matter to us. There were many chances to score, but rust glared it’s grimy eyes to show that most English teams are still in the warm-up stages of competition. Man U 0 (3), Portsmouth 0 (1). [Independent]
  • Olympic Soccer: Whatever they’re feeding the Brazilian soccer team, they shouldn’t cease from gorging on it. The Brazilians scored five goals against New Zealand to seal the deal for a second round showing. Brazil 5, New Zealand 0. [NY Times]
  • USPGA: Sergio Garcia missed a 15-foot putt and handed the USPGA championship to Padraig Harrington. [Telegraph]
  • Women’s Gymnastics: Alicia Sacramone and company couldn’t stay within the lines and are now running number two against hosts China. Ladies, just pretend that white line emits a charge of 50,000 volts. Seriously, just pretend. [Chicago Tribune]
  • Men’s Soccer: Jozy Altidore spear-headed the chance of victory until the US dropped the ball by allowing the Netherlands to score in the final minute of play. US 2, Netherlands 2. [ESPN]
