So This Is What It's Come To—Fans Suing Teams With Baseless Claims Has Become A Worldwide Epidemic

After reading about yesterday’s verdict giving a Napolese man $3K for being insulted by a banner hung from Inter Milan’s stadium, we never thought it would be topped. And actually, it hasn’t—it is a pretty ridiculous lawsuit—but a Boston Red Sox fan thought he’d give it a try. Charles Hillios of New York is suing the Yankees and two of their fans because he was harassed and subsequently “viciously attacked” by the yoots while security did nothing. Why? It seems that his only crime was that he was cheering the Sox… which, depending on where you are, is a perfectly legal excuse to get your ass kicked. We’re going to assume Yankee Stadium is one of them.

In a suit filed in Manhattan federal court, Charles Hillios said he was harassed by two Yankees fans who objected to him cheering for the Red Sox last Aug. 29. The Massachusetts resident said in the suit that security warned the Yankees fans to leave him alone. But he said the fans “viciously attacked and physically assaulted” him when he went to a concession stand.

Hey tough guy, read the back of your ticket. Even in the “Half-off A Subway Footlong” coupon it stipulates that the team isn’t responsible for the actions of their fans. And while we feel bad that you caught a beat down while trying to get a Miller Lite and Pretzel, it’s not like Derek Jeter came to the upper deck and beat your ass (even though we’re sure he really, really wanted to).
