Argentine Women's Soccer Players Are Latest Spanish-Speaking Group Of Olympians With "Slant-Eyes" Pics

argie_slit_face.jpg

The first time is chance. The second time is coincidence. The third time is a pattern. As the battle rages on over whether the Spanish nation’s Olympic heroes are racist for their slant-eyed shenanigans, another country whose main language is Spanish and main food staple is meat has found itself in the discussion. A picture has just come to light showing members of Argentina’s Women’s Olympic soccer team slanting their eyes like the Spanish basketball and tennis teams did before them. (Also check out Latinos hate Asians coverage on Guanabee). In reality however, the images were taken a week before the Spaniards’ but are just surfacing now like stinky, dead fish in a polluted river.

The photo was published - without provoking controversy - in the Argentine sports newspaper Ole on Aug 5, to accompany a preview of the team’s first match of the tournament against Canada. It was taken more than a week before adverts featuring the Spanish men’s and women’s basketball teams in similar poses sparked international criticism.
The image shows players Maria Potassa, Eva Gonzalez, Fabiana Vallejos and Andrea Ojeda smiling broadly as they pull back the skin on the side of their eyes, in a crude impersonation of Chinese people. There is no suggestion that the four footballers intended to cause offence.

Again with this “didn’t mean to offend.” Then what the hell were you doing? At least own up to the fact you were mocking the appearance of someone different than you, then give one of those fake apologies athletes like to give instead of feigning not understanding how something this egregious is racist. In the long run, saying “I’m sorry I picked up that hooker” is a lot better than “I was just giving her a ride” in a world ready to give famous people second acts.

Out of all the Hispanic countries that I’d expect this from, Spain would be no. 1 and the Argies no. 2. You’re on notice, Ecuador. Don’t let me down.

I’d say Mexico is totally next on this one.

I love how the media continues to portray the games as harmonious and triumphant over segregation and separation, but this is why the Olympics shouldn’t be taken so seriously.

Maybe it’s a sort of secret admission that Los Chinos entirely own us. Spanish speaker are just trying to fit in.

Just wait until pictures of Guatemalans doing the same thing emerge…

Or, on second thought, maybe it’s just the Argentines’ way of trying to say they’re more Spanish than the Spaniards…

Guatemalans already have slanted eyes….

@ Anonymous: You mean the German and French Guatemalans with blue and green eyes?

LOL, they are pretty ugly. Not sure why they are making fun of the Asian girls. they dont have much room to laugh!

Coming from a lation, who was BORN in the US, raised bilingual and having both a large percentage of white and minority friends, I must say that for the most part, it is the US the one that gets vastly offended about this. In many other countries, the form of racism is not seen as strong (not to say it is not seen, it’s just not as sensitive). This is coming from someone that even though I was born in the US, I lived many years outside of the States and small insignificant gestures such as the slant-eyed thing is not seen as offensive. It is just a matter of being different, not being inferior one to the other, and showing slanted eyes to the latino population overall is not seen as making fun of the “inferior” asian people, given that being asian is not inferior, just different. The US has had a very distinctive history with racism from which was emphasized by slavery, (Yes, I am aware Europe and africa also did), but in latin america it is not such a big taboo, thus, making those gestures are not seen with such negative intentions as it is seen here.
If you haven’t been to latin america one thign you will soon learn is how liberal and overall (laid back) they can be over there. Not many taboos are seen, not to say there are none, just saying, they dont get as offended as they do here…like they said in the original article “There is no suggestion that the four footballers intended to cause offence” so to this author all i have to say is just chill out and stop making a big deal out of it.

All my asian friends used to call me “round-eye”. You guys have no sense of humor.

This is just plain ignorance (or worse) on the part of the Guardian’s journalist, Alan Gardner. This photo was shot in Argentina by an Argentinian newspaper and with Argentines as target audience, so it should both be kept in context AND interpreted within that context: for Argentinian culture this picture isn’t demeaning at all - it bears no ill will or disrespect. No Argentine would interpret it as making fun at Asians. It would be interpreted as joyful way of representing both happiness and readiness for participating in the Olympics in China. I’m an Argentine, and I know that full well. And I suspect the same thing happened with the Spanish team photo too.

Is third girl from left already Asian?
I’m with Argie on this one, I’m french and I used to do that all the time when i was a kid, it was fun, I also put my hands next to my throat and acted like a fish, same with flipping my fingers over and making glasses… nothing racist about any of that.

Is this serious? People being offended by this? Are English-Speaking groups so stupid? :)

What does a country’s “main food staple” being meat have to do with anything?

Argie is right, much ado about nothing. I would care only if a chinese person raised concern about it, in which case there might exist some chance of a cultural misunderstanding. That seems improbable, though. The journalist is probably stereotyping much worse than the average argentine does.

How in the world is this NOT seen as offensive? Why don’t we all just mimic kids with down syndrome for fun, or wear black face to the office so we can show our black friends we’re cool? Yeah, that would be some fun, wouldn’t it?

Of course “Argie” is going to defend his own country. I would too. But it takes a lot of guts to call out bad form, and most of you folk are simply too saturated with bigotry to notice how this might offend another culture.

Why do we even care about offending the sensibilities of a few Chinamen? Aren’t there better things to worry about?

say goodbye to that nike sponsorship.

who cares about a bunch of dirty wetbacks anyway?

speaky spanny?

WTF. Do you people all have a stick up your ass? WTF is wrong with poking a little fun at the chinese.
It is normal and healthy for groups of people to foster an amicable rivalry and poke fun at each other.
Racism is about hatred, not parody.

Speaking as an American, I must applaud the Argentine Women’s Soccer Team’s willingness to show solidarity with Asian peoples! Those of us who are epicanthically challenged, as these women are, should also display our respect and love for Asians with this gesture of good fellowship!

respond to Argie

Maybe you think that a picture like that is offensive, but for most of us, Argentinean people, isn’t.
in fact most of us use the words like “negro” to refers to something positive, like a friend.

Don’t think that all the people from some country or from some region in the world is like you. or like the people you know.

Cheers.!

Claudio

Who cares. You think Chinese players aren’t making “round-eye” jokes about the Europeans?

The intensity of the competition is fierce. And China doesn’t care about sportsmanship.

If you have to dehumanize a rival that doesn’t play fair for a psychological edge, so be it.

It doesn’t matter if Argintinians are offended or not, if it’s offensive to the people they’re refering to then it’s OFFENSIVE! So everyone in the world should learn every single country’s sense of humor… This only shows the selfish indulgence of these people.

Everyone gets offended at everything in the US. Political Correctness went out of control to the point that people here dont know what the hell they can say anymore. Somebody who is a friend of Tiger Woods mentions a lynching that has no context on anything negative and she is suspended from broadcasting for a month, case after case like that. It was that whites could get verbally beat up all day and never say anything back, but those days are changing

re: Clark,

too many generalities…

I have seen extreme gesture of sportmanship from the Chinese spectators from the stand. Applauding for theirs own and the opponents alike.

It is the regime that most people have problem with not the people themselves. Let’s make that clear.

If I’m not mistaken, Argentina elected an Asian president. They chose a Japanese person to be their country’s president.

On the other hand, it’ll probably be a cold day in hell before an Asian is elected president of the United States. But hey, that is OK because we Americans “tsk tsk” at pictures like this, right?

Think about it. When it comes right down to it, we talk the talk, but we don’t walk the walk.

Also, in the United States, it is easier to get into college if you say you are White/Caucasian rather than Asian. Why? Because they say Asians are “over-represented”—so a white U.S. citizen with lower test scores has a better chance to get into a top university than an Asian U.S. citizen with higher scores. If you don’t believe me, call up the admissions office of highly selective colleges and ask them.

Am i the only one who noticed that the third one from the left has chink eyes yet is doing the chink eyes thing anyway lmao.

Peru is the country that had a president of Japanese origin.

I like how non-Asian people often say they don’t see anything too wrong with this. Whether it’s right or wrong, how does a non-Asian know how an Asian person feels about being mocked? If the Olympics were being held in Jamaica, would it be OK to put on blackface?

who gives

a fuck

eh, bunch of spics anyway

Latinos are among th most racist people. All you need to do is look at their TV programs and see they only pick the most white looking people to appear on them. Colored people are discriminated against openly. This is no surprise. End affirmative action for latinos.

I’m Asian, and I find this offensive.

funny, when I lived in Argentina and the first time I saw this rice commercial on TV:

‘Aloz gallo olo… de la caja amariiiiiilla’, I said what the fuck and got a good laugh out of it. But after a while, it stopped being specially with people on the street mucking you just like in the TV commercial.

But like I said only a minority of people in Argentina resort to this kind of tonteria.

This will be in the news for about a minute, then go away. Catch an Argentinian saying the “N” word (OMG, he said THE ‘N’ word! aaaaaaaahhhhh), and it’ll be a big deal. It’s always been “slanted” like this.

Well, contrary to what Steve just wrote, how in the world is this offensive??? It would be offensive if the asian eyes were considered worst than ours. They are just different, not better nor worse. They are like a trademark. Or, is it offending for me to wear jeans? Or wear a neck tie simultaniously with tennis shoes? If I do it, am I offending the american culture? Can I at least wear a hat without offending someone on Texas, or am I making fun of cowboys?

Putting the question upside down: would you be offended if an asian guy took a picture trying to show “round” eyes, while having fun at the USA??? I’m not american, but I can easily say I certainly wouldn’t…

JaqueMate:
I believe that comment you highlighted is correct, regarding what it is talking about. I too would be offended if someone used any word (regardless which word it would be) if it was used in a degenerative way or if someone tried to imply that people from a different place (not always from different countries) are dumber or worse than the others. However, I do not believe this is the case with a simple picture. I look at that picture and only see joy. It really states that those players are happy to be in China and they express it quite well. There is no degenerative message in there! So, while I agree there are too much racism left in the world (no matter which country we talk about) there is also too many accusing minds that try to find something to point fingers at others, even in the most innocent situations.

By the way, I’m not spanish nor asian nor american. I’m portuguese and I too have seen my fare share of racism. I don’t like it. But I try to live without it, in any form: either directly or indirectly.

To Marco:

Well said. We need to learn about and respect our differences.

Everybody saying this is acceptable for x, y or z just does NOT know the implications of these actions are. Doesn’t matter if it’s in the US, Asia, Africa, etc. There is just one word to call this.. RACISM. The world we LIVE in is not WHITE. But white is the color of everything we see nowadays. That’s the problem…

South America?? please..people over there are more racist than Americans. And they are not afraid to show it. I call that a LACK of culture and IGNORANCE towards our world. I know I lived in South American for too many years.

Don’t take me wrong, Asians are racist too. But at least they have respect and they will show it. This is brought mostly because of religion and culture.

So what!

I cant believe i am commenting on this!!!

Whatever!

get away from my 7-eleven

Where are Argentina on the medals table?….enough said

The negative connotations associated with such gestures are made up by the Americans. Take the same actions to another country and it means entirely different thing. I never knew what this gesture meant in North American terms until I moved here.

I am Asian, I do not find this offensive. Now, if an American did it, I would find it offensive. Because I know they are mocking the Asians.

Just like giving the “thumbs up” gesture, it’s a positive gesture in 80%+ countries, but if someone from (if I am correct) one of those middle east countries sees it, they would find it offensive but only if they see a fellow countrymen do it. They would think nothing of it if it’s say, an American, giving the thumbs up.

I can’t believe the legs this BS has had. Note to OP — get your facts straight!

The pictures are part of a campaign of a CHINESE COMPANY. It’s a trade mark they were asked to do for the picture. (You make it sound like it was their idea.)

I suppose when “Milk” advertisers ask famous atheletes/actors to wear a milk mustache for their ads it’s really because they’re making fun of cows?

Americans always complain about racism, in fact I believe America reinforces the attitude. In other Spanish countries people don’t find this offensive even if there are a lot of people with Asian facial features like Peruvians, Guatemaleans, Uruguayans and many others. Americans have way too much free time in their hands, they are always looking for any controversial topic to bring up to keep themselves entertained.

I have a phillipino friend, and she opens her eyes with her fingers, and then she tells me that I am a round eye. She’s funny.

to be racist in a latin american country is to hate your own race, we’re all mestizo and we can joke around without having to worry about everything being PC.

i can’t believe i scrolled down to the bottom of this.

everyone making generalizations.. not offensive.. offensive.. i’m asian.. i’m latino.. whatever.

i am asian.. and though the natural reaction is to be a little stung, i would say… i don’t know those girls. and i don’t know why they did it. if one day, i meet one of them, and have a conversation with them, i’ll decide then whether or not to be offended.

Response to ArgieChino

Of course I know the eye-slanting CAN be used as a form of mockery in Argentina, as in most places. But such a mockery in Argentina would HAVE to be accompanied by harassing words, other aggressive gestures, imitation of retardation, etc. In and of itself, eye-slanting isn’t demeaning in Argentina. That Gallo rice ad illustrates this.

The point is that in Argentina eye-slanting CAN ALSO be used in a different form that does NOT carry a negative meaning too, and that THAT’s the way it was used here. There was no pejorative meaning in that photo (taken within its correct context). Interpreting it (the picture) as containing a demeaning attitude is simply a bad interpretation that arises from taking it out of its context.

Racism is everywhere, no doubt about it. There’s no use trying to figure out who is more racist, we all are to some extent. There just wasn’t any special manifestation of it in that picture: they’re only saying “we go to China”, “we’re ready for China Olympics”, etc.

Check out this guy’s post and photo in response to the slanted eyes. It’s hilarious.

http://eugenecho.wordpress.com/2008/08/19/my-slanted-eyes-are-beautiful/

Chinese people have slanted eyes. So what, Is that offensive?
How else do you say “Hey, I’m going to China”?

Regardless of whether it is racist, it is culturally insensitive, and downright ridiculous. Whoever did this aren’t too bright, are they? A lot of use of the limbs, not too much of the brain.

Spanish people are racist, just Google how they treat their south American off spring. They act in a very demeaning way. Or just take a look at Alonso’s (F1 driver) actions. This is due to the fact that its an accepted behavior in their country.

Argentinian’s are proud (for that matter Uruguay has a similar behavior) when they state they are descendants from Italians. If you pay close attention, most Argentinians try to have Italian sounding last names. Don’t really know why one would like to be Italian unless you were born there. Argentinians tend to be very racist with Bolivians and Peruvians. Calling the first “bolitas” and really can remember the term for the later ones. To prove this, just search on the net for how many Bolivians or Peruvians get murdered or abused in Argentina and then track for what happens to the guilty parties. Same as Spanish people.

Now, to be perfectly honest, some other terms that in the Western World would be politically incorrect are taken in different light in these Spanish speaking countries. For example, they tend to use “gordito” (fatty one) or “flaco” (skinny one) as terms of endearment, and they are taken as such.

Still this doesn’t take away the fact that their actions are improper, regardless of the audience.

Racism is extreme in Spanish speaking countries, even within own borders. Just look at what Bolivia is doing to its citizens, most likely splitting the country in two. Its just a problem that has been ignored and those people have grown accepting demeaning behavior as acceptable and even support it publicly. That’s were all this controversy stared.

Spanish speaking countries must grow up and assume responsibility with their actions. They don’t live in close societies anymore.

“Chinese people have slanted eyes. So what, Is that offensive?”

Because Chinese (and other East Asians) do NOT have any more slanted eyes than anyone else. If you are IQ challenged, go see a Clint Eastwood movie to verify this. East Asians may have smaller, narrower eyes, but the percentage of those with slanted eyes are no greater than in the Caucasian populations.

Just as importantly ‘slanted’ eyes are NOT seen as beautiful or wonderful things by the people who make these racial gestures. No one has ever made such eye gestures in the spirit of telling an East Asian person “I really really respect you!”. A non Asian man who dates an Asian woman, for example, would NEVER make such a gesture if he plans on getting any. The finger on eye gesture starts with children mocking other children and apparently continues into adulthood for many people.

So enough of these utterly fake protests of innocence and indignation at “American PC culture”. You f*cking *sswipes know better, and you are not only lying to us, but to yourselves as well. How many of you “innocent” f*ckers would have taken pictures with puffed up lips before going to an Olympics somewhere in Africa? Do you really believe that African people would appreciate that “innocent” gesture of friendship and goodwill? So shut up, you you lying sacks of racist sh*t.

There’s a lot here about context and all that rubbish. What our Olympians, and my fellow readers, should remember is that the Olympics is an international event. So doing a slitty eyed impression of your host nation before getting to the games is possibly one of the worst things you can do.

Also, it is well documented as to just how racist the Spanish are, anyone remember the monkey chants they used to do at black footballers? Or the fact that the Spanish National football coach called Mr. Henry at “Black Shit”? Or the “loving” way Spanish F1 fans welcomed Lewis Hamilton?

The fact is they are racist, which is surprising as Spain has more cultural mix than a bag of Haribo party mix.

What of Argentina? Well to an extent you can forgive them as their culture is not heavily influenced by European standards, unlike the Spanish. In South America racism is far more acceptable, as in Asia, and it is us Europeans that are the most sensitive to it. Case in point - Brazilians are happy to refer to the black workers in their country as monkeys, and have no issues with treating them badly.

Still, the Argentineans should have the common sense that such a gesture will be picked up on by the international press. If the American team did this….believe me the repercussions would have been infinitely worse.

But what really stands out is the justification from Spanish NBA star Jose Calderon. Calderon stated that is was a “wink” and that. wait for it, some of his “best friends in Toronto are from china”!!

Hilarious.

Just apologise to the greater world community, bury your blatant national racism for a few more weeks, and then get back to it when the Olympics are over. Different nationalities will still be there for you to rip on, sorry endear to!

Christ, even the South Africans have managed not to offend anyone!

doesn’t surprise me argentina and spain did this.
argentina thinks they are the greatest country on earth and that is why no other hispanic country can stand them, and spaniards, i hate them too.

What’s all the hype about? The slanting of the eyes are just a way of trying to “fit in” with the olympic games host. In truth and in fact, chinese eyes are one of the best looking eyes in the world.. I see no racism involved.. Only the people who are truly racist are the ones who are making a big fuss about these pics..

Here in my country we do that often, and we love the chinese so much especially their girls..

That’s to be expected from these low-lifes.

Given that, if they should still apologize, they should do so with their eyes still slanted..

I agree with Marco.. The slanting of the eyes perceived as a racist remark is the same as an american wearing a chinese traditional outfit would also be considered as racist. Or even using chopstix…

I still think that the slanting of the eyes only meant “We are one with the Chinese!”

Its like getting into a native tribe.. in which case you should humble yourself and try to fit in with them..
Or in another point of view, you dont go in a wealthy people gathering with poor clothes.. you should atleast dress up the same.

Maybe it’s just that the US is the most overly PC country in the world and no one else, the Chinese included, are offended by it. Stop being douchebags and trying to defend the feelings of people who don’t want your help

I wonder if all these people that have got outraged about these pictures have ever been to Argentina, Spain, etc.
I’m from Argentina myself and the thought that people there hate Asians is just idiotic. I had classmates at school from Korea and Taiwan, many small supermarkets in Buenos Aires are owned by taiwanese people, and the list can go on.
I won’t say that we love them, but we certainly don’t hate them. They are considered as hard working people that happen to be a bit shy or not very open, but that’s it.
Doing the slant-eyes is no more offensive for us than calling a dark skinned person black. It is just a cultural thing with no offense intended, and I’m sure most Chinese or Asians don’t see like that either.
I really HATE all this PC bollocks. It is really stupid that, to a certain extent, is more acceptable to say something like “I don’t like african-americans”, than “I love them niggers”.
Get a life for f’s sakes….

Ok, let’s start from the top

This comment, comming from a citizen of a country where being middle east look a like, or being african-american increases dramatically your chance of being “profiled”, a country where around 15 years ago, a group of white officers beated the cr*p out of an african american citizen, getting a joke of a trial and a shame of a veredict. a country where 50 years ago the buses where segregated (as well as schools, hospitals, etc.) a country where 60 years ago got the japanese-american citizens were jailed (just-in-case!), a country where 145 years ago you were at war with one side defending SLAVERY, a country that RIGHT NOW has people in detainment camps without a judge, without rights and without charges and with blatant violations of HUMAN RIGHTS, This citizen of this country calls a joke (ok, not a good one) an outrage?.

I am from argentina (or an “argie” as you label us), we have here some jokes, some puns, some ways to call people that could (and really are) different from the americans. I think that a joke (even a bad one) is a joke, not an attack or a disrespect, they are not mocking a chinese (as america does in their movies) and we don’t portrait china as a demon (american media sometimes did).

To the person that wrote this article

COULD YOU LEAVE THE SELF-RIGHTEOUS-BITCH TONE?

Thats not racism in argentina
Im argentine

I’m of laotion/thai descent and seeing this picture makes my blood boil. Of course americans such as myself might night understand the this argentinian gesture of a joke…maybe it’s because I’m not argentinian?! Wow, mind blowing. It’s the same rule when it comes to using the ‘N’ word with the black community, you don’t fucking use it. Have some respect and tact. If you’re going to take a quip at the asian community, at least be clever about it. The eye joke is old if not just plain annoying since europeans have landed on our shores.

I’m Chinese and looking at these pictures of these athletes making “slanted eyes” gestures brought back painful memories of when I was in elementary school and the other
students at school would make fun of me and other Asian students by making their eyes slanted and laugh at us while they are doing it. God created us the way we are, we have no control over that.

How childish of the Spaniard to do this. Someone should tell them
to grow up. They are not in elementary school anymore.

Hey hey ppl. I think I’ve got it figured out. We’re in a “Babel” situation here.

But first of all, I’m Asian. F**kin’ Chinese, in fact. Pure, unadulterated Chinese. All the way back until they invented paper and gunpowder (so they say. Personally I think it’s the huge slanty-eyed ego) ;)

Secondly, I have narrow, slanty Asian eyes (take a look at my blog if you don’t believe me)……..And a flat nose and coarse, straight hair, and yellow skin. And I eat with chopsticks. And I eat rice for many meals. Heh.

Thirdly, and I believe this will surprise many….. I’m not offended by the slanty-eyed thing. And I don’t think most Chinese will be. Most don’t see it as a racist gesture. I have small eyes, so? I’m Chinese, it’s normal. Duh.

I believe it happens a lot in the US - the racial taunting by a huge bunch of white kids of asian kids - to make them feel so prickly and offended by this. And I don’t think anyone’s stupid enough to (very publicly) taunt a huge foreign country right before you visit them, especially by using racist taunts. In an ad, no less.

If you read the comments, I think only the US-born Asians have bothered to comment about it being racist. And seeing as the picture was done by Argentines, I don’t think you should, no offence meant.

If they say it wasn’t meant to be offensive, I believe them. I think a lot of Chinese would believe them. I think it’s funny actually, someone doing the narrow eyes to look Chinese :)

So basically, no one else in the world is racist towards the Chinese. Just the moronic PC maniacs in the bloody USA. Small wonder you’re a nation of fatties. I’ll just puff out my cheeks and pretend to waddle then. OOoooooh….. now that’s discriminatory ;)

well as long as they don’t talk about small penis I am fine with that

Remember the movie “Sixteen Candles” ? Remember how John Hughes made us laugh of Long Duk Dong? Were there protests outside the movie theatres because of the way a chinese person was portrayed by a US director? No. There was not a word, every one was pretty light about it and laughed along.
20 years later John Hughes would be crucified if he pulled a similar stunt. It seems somebody must have shoved a stick up the general public´s ass because now everybody is getting offended by almost anything, and we are so eager to call the person next door a racist and a bigot. X ).

Please don’t form an opinion on an ENIRE NATION based on FOUR soccer players……

Please don’t form an opinion on an ENTIRE NATION based on only FOUR soccer players……

Hi all,

I was born and lived in Argentina for 8 years until I moved to the USA (I’m 21 now). This is not to offend anyone. We might have a dry sense of humor and all but I asure all of you that this is NOT racism.

I live in Miami, Florida and I will ask all the Argentine people here to answer this…

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE PEOPLE SANG THE EVITA SONG TO US.. YES “DONT CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA” ? OR HOW MANY TIMES HAVE PEOPLE TRIED TO SPEAK LIKE US WITH THE ACCENT IN THE Y’S AND CALLED US “BOLUDOS” AS IF THEY KNEW WHAT IT MEANT OR HOW TO USE IT? OH AND IF I HAD A DOLLAR FOR EVERYTIME SOMEONE CALLED ME “CHE” OR “ARGENTINA” i WOULD BE RICH! lol

Not only that, Americans…

HOW MANY TIMES HAS SOMEONE CALLED U A “WHITEBOY/WHITEGIRL” OR PLAYED COUNTRY MUSIC EXPECTING YOU TO KNOW THE SONG???

That never offends us.. we find it annoying at times .. YES (after a million people say the same thing) but we UNDERSTAND why the person says that and NEVER consider it racism. All cultures have their thing ok..so build a bridge and get over it!

Thanks for reading,
Denise

OH AND THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OFFENDING SOMEONE AND BEING RACIST. Yes racism is a form of offence. Just because someone UNINTENTIONALLY might have offended does not mean that they are racist or wanted to offend anyone.

How many times have you offended a peer or coworker by something you said and it was nothing related to racism?

Please people be mature about this…

Thanks for reading,
Denise

You’ve heard of the fearsome team from Spain:
They persevered for Gold in vain.
Poised with confidence, unrestrained,
Their eyes betrayed the heart they feign.

“Friendly and harmless, simple and plain.
You read into it; it’s all in your brain.”
Such words of comfort they hope have regained
The misplaced trust ever more to attain.

Good humor they claimed they wish to retain,
But it all came under fire and rain.
In centuries passed, their glory has waned,
In clueless oblivion they choose to remain.

Shell-struck people of Asian terrain
Witness again the white man’s refrain.
Branded “sub-human”, they once were detained
In the confines of their master’s domain.

So goes the story of the team from Spain:
They persevere for support in vain.
Poised with resolve, but now restrained,
Their shame foreshadows all that they feign.

I am your slant-eye, but this I maintain:
My blood is as red as that in your vein.
My insides are torn, my emotions drained,
To hear you proclaim there’s no one in pain.

…by Slant-eyed Asian…

These hijos de putas from che chevara country are racists, same as estos espanoles mama la verga .

I guess people who would find jokes like this acceptable also think it’s funny to stare at the disabled, short, over-weight. etc. Yes, we all did it as kids. Then we were taught how to behave and respect one another, right? Well, maybe not all of us. Finding any of that humorous is just showing a lack of imagination and respect. Oh look, someone looks different than me…Ha Ha Ha. Are you serious? Grow up!

Yeah.. I remember that kind of stuff from grade school. Only shows the mentality.

Much ado about nothing. But, it is surely not showing respect to the Chinese people or the Asian region. It certainly shows a lack of judgement.

Everyone knows that the rest of Spanish South America cannot stand the Argentines. The majority openly cheer for Brazil over Argentina in a futbol match. Look at the Copa. Further, in Miami the bulk of any hassles Argentines’ receive comes from the Cubans, not the gringos. The Cubans have long believed they are the true Castillian leader of Latin America. However, they say they are hispanic, not latino. Latinos to Cubans are the mestizos of Mexico.

The key to understanding Argentina and the rest of Spanish Latin America rests in recognizing the “white” Spanish descended colonial legacy ruling class. Color does determine social standing - think Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, Mexico etc.

In regards, to the Chinese, they are rascist too. Despite the propaganda, they will not deal with black people, and regard “tans” or darker skin as lower class. Many are “whiter” than a northern European. Witness the parade of ethnic groups at the Olympics. They were all Han Chinese in costume. It would seem that along with a common genetic heritage, the Argentines and Chinese behave quite similar.

you are such a dumb ass bitch you suck too

This article shows a big deal of ignorance about other cultures. Latino countries are not that picky as US when talking about differences. They see you are different and they will tell you about it; but they don’t have the strong racism like in US. They will accept you as you are. Besides, in most of the latino countries everybody comes from somewhere else, Italy, Spain, Japan, Korea, Laos, Haiti, Nigeria, etc.; so there is a great acceptance about those who are different.

I don’t understand what are the peoples names.

Hey! i dont get what your talking about? I LOVE CHRIS WETHERBY WITH ALL MY HEART. HE IS A sexxxyyy thangg hunnie! i love you baby! <33 :]

This is for martha: Latin america is compose of many people of european ancestry and native american blood! You mention that people in latin america come from different places and you mentioned japan and korea. fyi there is only about 1% asian people in latin america so asians are not even considered a population in latin america. So please dont mention asians as being a popular race in latin america!!
