A Desperate Madden 09 En Espanol Released Today With Roberto Garza—A Lineman!—On The Cover

When we see the NFL almost trying too hard to thank its Latino fans by having a whole month celebrating them, we kinda cringe. But it’s at least a sign that they’re taking it somewhat seriously by commissioning EA to release a version of the Madden series in Spanish. Last year’s cover boy was the Chargers’ Luis Castillo, but this year they kinda dropped the ball by putting the Bears’ offensive lineman Roberto Garza on the cover. It’s not that we don’t respect Garza, but we’d rather have Hall of Fame tackle Anthony Munoz, or better yet… well, we’ll tell you after the jump after highlighting what you’re shelling out another $50 bucks for.

Play Madden NFL 09 fully translated in Spanish with this special edition of the game, featuring exclusive Spanish language content, including additional music tracks, and Spanish play-by-play and game analysis voice-over.

Hey EA guys—why isn’t Tony Romo on the cover? Seriously, if you want to push your product on the Spanish-speaking populace, why not shell out the dough or use your influence with the NFL to get arguably the most recognizable face in the league still playing now that Tom Brady is out and Jessica Simpson is still semi-relevant? Sure, he’s only half Latino and you might want to use him for the cover of the English version sometime soon. But breaking into new markets sometimes requires breaking some eggs, and Romo’s the biggest egg of them all right now.
