Unlike other athletes in the world, elite soccer players really do care what others think about their moves and decisions. Because any bad press could effect their future WAG search, or endorsement deals or reputation as a “Rico Suave.” So it’s not going to feel good for Manchester City’s newest acquisition Robinho to hear that his country’s most famous compatriot has recommended something just shy of putting him up in a mental institution.
Pele, 67, said: “Chelsea are lucky. This boy needs some serious counseling. He has been badly advised.”
Would you like your knife back, kind sir? If Pele’s criticism doesn’t rile up Robinho’s sobs, then knowing that the man who introduced him to European fame is also berating his decision, is probably worse than a kick to the you know whats.
Former Real coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo added: “If you want to become the best, you need a team with possibilities to shine. I don’t know if his football or his career will go back at City.”
Hey, at least he’ll be able to live like a champion, even if he’ll never see a trophy for the rest of his career.
