As of this writing, the Los Angeles Dodgers are a combination of three wins from them or losses from the Arizona Diamondbacks from winning the NL West. Also as of this writing, the New York Yankees have been eliminated from the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. That’s not playing too well in the Steinbrenner household, where Hank wrote a piece in the Sporting News lamenting the playoff miss by tearing down the former skipper of his club, Joe Torre, and the apparent success his new team is achieving. If Torre weren’t such a classy guy to begin with, we’d think this was payback from a decade’s worth of wedgies instead of Hank just being a jerk-ass.
“I’m happy for Joe, but you have to compare the divisions and the competition,” the bombastic Baby Boss says in a guest column… “[But] what if the Yankees finish the season with more wins than the Dodgers but the Dodgers make the playoffs? Does that make the Dodgers a better team? No.”
“But it isn’t fair. You see it this season, with plenty of people in the media pointing out that Joe Torre and the Dodgers are going to the playoffs while we’re not. This is by no means a knock on Torre - let me make that clear - but look at the division they’re in. If L.A. were in the AL East, it wouldn’t be in the playoff discussion. The AL East is never weak.”
Unless one of those guys are playing the Angels. Those guys always suck against the Angels. Maybe this is just Hank’s passive aggressive way of getting out his frustrations against the Halos by shooting down the freeway and attacking a familiar face. Nah… we don’t even think his subconscious is that with it.
