World tournaments are absolutely incomplete without an iconic mascot to inspire giddiness out of all of us. So it’s no different in 2010 when South Africa is scheduled to host the biggest soccer tourney ever. Everyone, meet Zakumi.
The South Africa official 2010 mascot, a leopard known as Zakumi, is seen with Danny Jordaan, CEO of the Local Organising Committee during a launch in Auckland Park, Johannesburg September 22, 2008. The mascot for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa was unveiled in Johannesburg on Monday, with Fifa opting for a leopard for the showpiece football tournament’s first visit to Africa. “Zakumi is young, vibrant, energetic, smart, self-confident, sociable and ambitious, but also warm-hearted,” Jordaan said at the televised launch.
But can he do a robot celebration after scoring a goal? Because Peter Crouch could be the greatest mascot of all time. So, if Zakumi wants that title, he needs to get on the pitch and show us his moves.
