'Member?: Ozzie's White Sox Play For Another Day

Whas Happened In Sports Last Night

  • MLB: We were watching this game with a keen eye, hoping to see Ozzie Guillen explode with anger or something. But the only manager to explode was Jim Leyland, blowing out his bullpen after his starter Freddy Garcia got hurt in the sixth inning. It was all downhill from there for the Tigers, punctuated by Cuba’s own Alexei Ramirez’s grand slam to put it out of reach. The win gave the White Sox a chance to win the AL Central with a one game playoff tonight. White Sox 8, Tigers 2 [Chicago Tribune]
  • NFL: If we knew last night’s Baltimore-Pittsburgh Monday Night Football tilt would be going to overtime, we would’ve sworn it was would’ve gone to the extra frame 3-3. But in it went into the fifth quarter 20-20 after the Ravens’ QB Joe Flacco drove them down during the fourth for the tying score. Ah, but on their first possession in OT, the Steelers’ Jeff Reed kicked in the winning field goal so everyone could go and get hammered off Iron City. Pittsburgh 23, Baltimore 20 [Sporting News]
  • WNBA: It’s not all doom and gloom in Detroit. Monday, Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 15 of her 19 points in the second half to help the Detroit Shock reach the WNBA finals for the third straight season where they’ll play San Antonio. And if you write in within the next five seconds what the name of the WNBA franchise in San Antonio is without looking it up, you’ll win… oh, sorry time’s up. Better luck next time. Shock 75, Liberty 73 [ESPN]
