We know everyone is excited about the Cubbies making it to the playoffs (We’re not. Go Doyers!), but one musician faced a corporate wrath when T.G.I. Friday’s, the fast-food chain that pretends to be a restaurant, fired him for playing “Go Cubs, Go!” during a July game.
Ted Wulfers never thought that singing Steve Goodman’s “Go Cubs Go” could get you fired, but that’s just what happened to the Chicago musician over the weekend. Wulfers was scheduled to perform Sunday at a TGI Friday’s inside Milwaukee’s Miller Park. But he was uninvited last week. The reason? The last time Wulfers performed there in July, he played “Go Cubs Go” after a Cubs victory over the Brewers. “It was not taken kindly by the Brewers fans,” said a spokeswoman for TGI Friday’s. “Friday’s and the Brewers made the decision not to have this band back this year.”
1) Who dares to play a Cubs’ song outside of Wrigley Field’s vicinity? 2)Imagine if someone played Randy Newman’s “I Love LA” in San Francisco? 3) Since when does T.G.I. Friday’s have music? 4) And lastly, if this guy moves to LA and decides to play the song during one of the likely Cubs victories against the Dodgers, we hope cholos go easy on him.
