Why would the son of an ex-World Cup goalie risk his life by trying to swim across the Rio Bravo in order to gain entry into the United States illegally? That’s the question surely to arise after Pablo Larios Jr., son of 1986 starting goalkeeper for the Mexican National Team Pablo Larios Iwasaki (pictured), was found 600 feet away from the flow of the Rio Bravo, dead at the age of 19.

Reports confirm his mother had notified authorities in Mexico that the son of Pablo Larios was trying to cross into the United States illegally after his visa had expired.

Larios Jr was searching for his girlfriend in the US, but reports don’t specify why the teenager acted so urgently. Was she with child? Was she asking for money? Whatever the case, Larios Jr. has become another casualty swallowed up by the harsh terrains of the US/Mexico border. We’ll keep you posted on the story.
