Tommy Lasorda is about as synonymous with the Dodgers as he is with [insert name of fattening Italian dish here]. So when San Francisco County Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier caught wind that Lasorda was lined up to be the grand marshal of the city’s Italian-American day parade, she didn’t want to hear it. Using her position in government, she’s written a resolution to bar Lasorda from the position. Yeah, because there aren’t bigger things the government in the country, from the bottom on up, has to deal with right now.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, [Alioto-Pier] has introduced a resolution for another “local Italian American athlete” such as Joe Montana or Barry Zito to take the former Dodgers manager’s place.
Wait, Joe Montana is Italian? And Barry Zito is still alive? We thought the Giants had him taken out to recoup some of that $126 million they paid him.
“We can’t have Tommy Lasorda come to San Francisco for the Italian American parade,” [Alioto-Pier] told the paper. “He’s like enemy No. 1 right now. If you don’t think this is important, you should move to L.A.”
Wow, is she serious? We haven’t seen someone from ‘Frisco get this mad since an ‘02 NFC Niners playoff party and the host had dropped a plate of brie and crackers while reaching for their Cabernet. It was a sad… sad time.
