It’s never too early to start drinking start writing about booze on the site, is it? Heaven Hill Distilleries announced a new “Tequila” this week that makes us cringe the same way cheladas in a can agitate our bellies with cramps.
Tabasco brand “Spicy Tequila” is set to hit store shelves this month in Dallas, Houston, Georgia, Indiana, and North Carolina zones, leaving huge Mexican populations like Los Angeles, San Diego and New York City out of the initial running because you don’t want them making fun of your product before it gains traction with the folk who like to chug their agave.
Just like the late 90’s introduction of “Tequiza”, or Budweiers misguided pursuit to encapsulate the refreshing taste of a beer with clamato juice (guacala), we assume Tabasco brand wants to capture the appeal of sipping on a copita de true agave, while chasing it with a sangrita by mixing the two flavors. Um, does this gimmick ever really work? Yes. With frat houses. Which is a gauge we don’t necessarily adhere to when it comes to choosing our liquor.
But, we’ll hold our tongue further until we actually taste the stuff. Hey, Tabasco. Prove us wrong and send us a bottle so we can brindis.

This is only for cooking right, like cooking sherry? Because I’m getting sick just thinking about it.
