Free Taco! Sorta Free Beer!

If you’re looking for food, and you’d rather not pay for it, then today is your big day. Thanks to Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett Game 1 steal of second base, Taco Bell is offering anyone who’d like one a free taco this afternoon, just in time for the late lunch/early dinner crowd. And it may be a bit away, but we’ve found a way for you all to get some (kinda) free beer.

Learn just how to gorge yourself on Mexican treats, gratis, after the jump.

First, let’s get that taco. Taco Bell, through its “Steal A Base, Steal A Taco” World Series promotion, will give anyone who asks a free Crunchy Seasoned Beef Taco today between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. It’s all local time, and no other purchase is required. Bartlett’s steal forced the company’s hand in this matter, and according to the Taco Bell release Bartlett was actually thinking about getting America it’s free beef treat during the game. You know, it’s not like he’d have more pressing business on his mind during the World Series.

“When I was running back out to the field for defense after the fifth inning, I was told that Taco Bell was going to give everyone in America a free taco,” said Bartlett. “The first thing that crossed my mind was all of my buddies back home in California who are probably on their way to Taco Bell that very minute. It’s pretty cool. I’m sure I’m going to get more than a few text messages from my friends thanking me for winning them a taco, I guess.”

“I guess.” What a ringing endorsement of an official MLB sponsor. If Grade F, possibly chopped circus animal, Mexican-style food doesn’t really get your motor running, then beer might.

Tecate, which we’ve always preferred to Corona, is offering drinkers $20 mail-in rebate on the purchase of the December 6th Oscar De La Hoya/Manny Pacquiao fight. All you have to do is buy a 12-pack or larger size bundle of Tecate or its light counterpart and mail in the little coupon. Tecate is a big partner with Golden Boy Promotions, De La Hoya’s company, and will sponsor a number of promotional appearances by the fighters and the Chicas Tecate in the run-up to the bout.

“For the past two years, Tecate has sponsored some of the most important Golden Boy Promotions events, and we have seen how their activation elements help further engage consumers,” said Richard Schaefer, chief executive officer of Golden Boy Promotions. “This is a sold out event and we now need to focus on getting boxing fans at home equally excited. We are confident Tecate’s promotions will help generate buzz and make the last bout of the year a success.”

Well, we don’t think this fight needs any help from Tecate to be a success. But it is still nice of them to bribe us with a 12-pack. See you then!
