Is It Time For Tottenham To Give Up On Juande Ramos? We Say Yes, Si and Oui

With all the Presidential endorsements getting published nowadays, we thought we’d go a different way. We’re going to take this space and actually rail against someone to lose their job. We think the leadership has gotten a little stale in North London, and we don’t mean Emirates Stadium. We’re talking about the other EPL club that is currently sitting at the bottom of the league standings—Tottenham Spurs. That is why we are endorsing the idea that Daniel Levy and the rest of the team’s management get rid of Juande Ramos.

The experiment started wonderfully, with a Carling Cup Championship shortly after the team dumped their previous manager, Martin Jol. But the signs of doom were there in the middle of the season, when the team couldn’t get going and stayed in the middle of the table. Ramos said it was because his halted, Spanish style of play wasn’t suited to the players he had. Okay. In the offseason, the team got him a full arsenal, players like like Giovani Dos Santos from Barcelona, David Bentley from Blackburn and Croation Luka Modric.

But it seems that Ramos, even with “his players” has lost the team. The move of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov to Liverpool and Manchester United didn’t help matters, that’s for sure. But keeping a cohesive unit apparently isn’t Ramos’ strong suit. Keeping the Bill Parcells-like demeanor that he carried coaching at La Liga’s Sevilla squad didn’t help him with his move to the EPL. And now, the players are revolting (both figuratively and literally).

If they weren’t and still on mission with the team, would Heurelho Gomes’ concentration be so laxed playing a ball that he was forced to foul in a play on the ball during the embarrassing loss to Udinese? Would Jonathan Woodgate, who played on the Leeds team that was relegated, say the following after said defeat?

“People say we are too good to go down but we aren’t. I’ve seen it happen at Leeds and they had a better team than we do here… One million per cent we are at the moment,” in answer to the question were the club facing a relegation battle.”
Asked if he could take any positives from the game, Woodgate said: “No, none at all.

Pretty disheartening. So as Spurs sit at the bottom of the EPL table, Machochip heartily endorses the idea of letting go of Juande Ramos and starting anew. It’s only November, and there’s still lots of soccer to be played. Spurs fans—and the $100 million spent on players over the offseason—demand more.
