Former New York Knicks executive/head coach Isiah Thomas’ convoluted explanation of the police call to his home last week (It was my daughter! It wasn’t me! Mind your business!) continues to fall apart. First, the police chief of Thomas’ hometown let it be known to anyone who would listen that it was Isiah, and not his daughter, who accidentally OD’d, and that his deputies could tell the difference between an old man and a young woman.
Today, we learn that the Daily News has obtained the actual incident report from the event, which informs us that Thomas was not breathing when police arrived at his home.
Hmm…there seems to be no mention of his daughter.
Harrison police administered oxygen to Thomas until an ambulance crew arrived. He was taken to White Plains Hospital Center for further medical attention.
According to the report, Harrison police officers responding to a late-night 911 call arrived at Thomas’ $4 million home shortly after midnight on Oct.24 and found a victim unconscious in the kitchen. Thomas’ name and other personal information were redacted from the report, which The News obtained after filing a Freedom of Information Act request.
Chief David Hall would not identify the victim but said last week he was a 46-year-old man who had consumed 10 Lunesta sleeping pills. Thomas is 47 years old.
“We closed this investigation Friday,” Hall said Thursday. “We deemed it an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. There is absolutely no indication that he tried to kill himself. It was a standard call.”
No indication at all, except for the whole “ingesting ten pills” thing. Honestly, I think people would have been more than willing to accept this as an accident. The Donnie Walsh/Mike D’Antoni hiring last year really took away any motivation for fans to abuse Thomas anymore. They wanted him gone, and he’s gone. But because he fought the police on this, and then tried to blame his daughter for the incident, there is almost no doubt in my mind that he tried to off himself.
Hey, people make mistakes. Thomas probably didn’t want people to think he was a nutjob. So he came up with a crazy story explaining his actions. Perfectly sane.
