Machogames: Army Of Two Headed To The Big Screen

army.jpg Video game movies tend to suck ass (Doom, anyone?), but that’s not stopping Electronic Arts from taking a shot on the big screen with Army of Two, the innovative two-player co-op that was released in March. Following strong sales and good reviews, EA has signed a deal with Universal Studios to bring the game to the theater, and has brought on some big names to make the project work.

ARMY OF TWO is a great project that has already attracted top name talent, and we’re glad to be working with Electronic Arts on making this hit game into a film franchise,” said Donna Langley, President of Production at Universal Pictures.
“Electronic Arts is a pioneer in its field, and I look forward to collaborating with them and the Universal team in taking their cutting-edge storytelling into the world of film,” said producer Scott Stuber.
Scott Z. Burns added, “I’m thrilled that EA and Universal see the potential to make a smart thriller that has real implications in the world we live in today.”

Whatever the issues are with video game films, at least this will be an action movie, which means it could still be worth your $12 at your local UA. But what about a non-action flick? The company is also developing a motion picture for it’s wildly popular The Sims franchise with 20th Century Fox. No release date is set for that one.

We can certainly imagine going to a movie theater to watch people blow shit up, so maybe Army of Two is a winner. But The Sims? Why would anyone spend money to watch fictional characters go to work and hang out with their kids? We can do that at home for free.
