Whas Happened In Sports Last Night
- MLB: Was Jim Thome’s homer in the seventh inning of last night’s White Sox victory over Minnesota the most important of the season? Or was it Alexei Ramirez’s grand slam against Detroit the night before? Whichever you choose, they both kept Chicago’s season alive, although Thome’s captured them the AL Central crown. Now, it’s off to Tampa Bay, where they face everyone’s newfound favorite team the Rays in the first round of the playoffs. White Sox 1, Twins 0 [Chicago Tribune]
More scores and highlights you may have missed while your eyes were glued to your 401(K)… after the jump.
- Champions League: Dimitar Berbatov knocks in two goals for Manchester United as they beat Aalborg. That’s one more than Cristiano has all season. We can’t wait for the catfight in front of the Man U locker mirror. [AFP]
- MLS: Is the MLS Mobile site getting a 3G overhaul? We hope so because the choppy Cuauhtémoc Blanco Chicago Fire highlights on our iPhone were getting a little annoying.[MLS Rumors]
- MLB: This “Should they or shouldn’t they” re-sign Manny business with the Dodgers is getting a little ridiculous. Resign him and make the money back selling dredded Dodger caps. Win-win dudes. [LA Times]
- MLB: Yankees GM Brian Cahsman got a three-year extension for his services, even though they missed the playoffs this year for the first time in 13 years. It’s most likely a loyalty move for those years of making the playoffs under his steward (since ‘97) and not necessarily for creating the worst pitching staff in the AL East. [Yahoo]
- NFL: After a brief flirtation with the concrete feet of Trent Green (not to mention their recently fired coach Scott Linehan), the St. Louis Rams decided to go back to Marc Bulger as their starting QB… not that you should go rushing to your fantasy football waiver wire to scoop him up, mind you. They still suck. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
