'Member: The Boston Celtics Raised Championship Banner Number 17 Last Night

Whas happened in sports last night.

  • NBA: The last time we saw the Boston Celtics, they were celebrating their throttling of the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA crown. Last night they reaped the reward as they were able to hoist the franchise’s 17th banner above the crowd as they opened the season. The fact that they beat Cleveland and LeBron James was pretty cool, too. Boston 90, Cleveland 85 [Boston.com]
  • World Series Game Five: Yeah, remember that rained out game five of the World Series that was supposed to be resumed last night. Yeah, well it didn’t happen because Mother Nature is probably a Mets fan and wants to make Phillies fans suffer. Supposedly it’s going to resume tonight, after Obama’s half hour address… right here, on FOX! [ESPN]
  • NBA: The last time we saw the Lakers play, they were getting their asses handed to them by the Celtics. Well, it’s a new season and not even Greg Oden’s debut could save the Portland Trailblazers from the LA’s pent up, offseason anger. [LA Times]
  • Soccer: We’re okay with Pele having a shrine, especially if it highlights his days shilling for Crestfield was paper. [Javno]
